PUBLIC INPUT ENCOURAGED DURING BRUCE B. DOWNS

WIDENING WORKSHOP

A public workshop for the Bruce B. Downs Widening Project will be held on Wednesday, November 8. The workshop runs from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm in the Paul R. Wharton High School Cafeteria located at 20150 Bruce B. Downs Boulevard. The workshop will provide an open house format and display boards with project information that will be available for public viewing and comment. County staff and members of the design team will be present to answer questions.

During the meeting a formal written survey will be conducted regarding a Federally-required noise barrier study, results of the pedestrian bridge location evaluation, recommendations regarding the including of on-road paved shoulders, and presentation of roadway landscaping design. The public input obtained at this meeting will be used to finalize the design of the project. Public participation is needed and strongly encouraged at the workshop. For further information, contact Scott Passmore, Project Manager at (813) 307-1747.

HART riders can now create their own transit trip with itineraries and maps thanks to a new service launched by Google. On September 26, Google launched its new "Trip Planner" service, which creates online maps showing how to get from point A to point B using only public transportation in Hillsborough County.

The service works in similar ways as Google's other trip mapping systems and covers the entire region served by the Hillsborough Area Regional Transit Authority. Give the service a try and find out where you can travel using public transit. For further information visit www.hartline.org.

BICYCLE BASH BY THE BAY WILL CELEBRATE CYCLING

BIKE LIDS OFFER SECURE PARKING AT USF

The University of South Florida (USF) recently added secure bicycle parking at a Bull Runner Shuttle stop. Three bike lids were installed in Parking Lot 43 off of USF Laurel Street. The lids offer secure bicycle parking for students and staff . The University plans to install six additional lids on campus.

The lids were donated by Tom Locke, University Mall Manager and NNTA Advisory Board Member. For further information regarding free bike racks provided to businesses in the New North/University area, go to www.newnorthalliance.org or call (813) 974-9799.

NEW NORTH CELEBRATES COMMUTER CHOICES WEEK

Commuters in the New North/University area celebrated the 10th Annual Commuter Choices Week (CCW) from September 25-29. Commuters signed pledge cards and committed to using an alternative form of transportation instead of driving their automobiles alone. Commuters were encouraged to bike, walk, carpool, vanpool, or ride the bus at least one day during the week.

CCW is an annual event in Hillsborough and Pinellas Counties sponsored by Bay Area Commuter Services (BACS) and the Transportation Management Organization Coordinating Group (TMOCG). This week-long series of events helps to educate the general public, local government and the media about commute options and the benefits of reducing traffic congestion (and helping to reduce our need for fossil fuels).

Want to save money & make better use of your time by carpooling or vanpooling-
but don't know anyone to share the commute with?
We may be able to help! Join the regional rideshare database by following the link on the Commuter page of our website, www.newnorthalliance.org,  or by calling 813-974-9799 to speak with a New North Transportation Alliance representative.
