in Bicycling or Walking as a Form of Transportation?
If so,
or if you bike or walk for recreation, you may want to become
involved with the Bicycle/Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC).
BPAC is a committee of citizens and agency
employees who volunteer their time to improve the quality of life in
the community, by working to make Hillsborough County a better place
to walk or bicycle. They
do this through the promotion of bikeway, sidewalk, and trail
construction. BPAC also
encourages safety programs to make walking and cycling safe and
efficient.
BPAC
encourages citizens who enjoy bicycling or walking or who would like
to get more involved in the community to attend the annual BPAC
brainstorming session on March 16, 2002 at the Upper Tampa Bay Park
on West Hillsborough Avenue.
This
session helps identify key projects for
subcommittees to focus on in the upcoming year.
A bike ride at 8:00 am will kick-off the brainstorming
session, which will take place from 9am
to noon. Call
Gena Torres at the MPO for more information:

Hillsborough
County Long Range TDM Plan Completed
Recently,
a long range transportation demand management (TDM) plan was
completed for Hillsborough County. This study, commissioned by Bay Area Commuter Services
(BACS), funded by the MPO and researched by the Center for Urban
Transportation Research (CUTR) identifies strategies to achieve
certain air quality and trip reduction goals through 2025.
The study had oversight by a committee representing the TDM
agencies, the MPO and its committees, FDOT, EPC, and others.
Its recommendations and funding assumptions are a component
of the adopted 2025 Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP).
The
study found that focusing on certain elements would likely lead to a
more successful TDM program. Some
of these important components, which have been adopted as part of
the MPO's Long Range Transportation Plan, include the following:
Sandi Moody, planner for BACS, described the significance of the
inclusion of the TDM plan’s recommendations in Hillsborough
County’s LRTP by stating, “The addition of long range
transportation demand management elements into Hillsborough
County’s 2025 LRTP speaks highly of the county’s commitment to
implement transportation solutions that improve quality of life for
its residents, as well as increasing the economic vitality of its
businesses.”
