educate members of the University North Transportation Initiative and the
public on local mobility issues, projects and developments. July 2001 Vol. 5 No. 10 Florida's Most Dangerous Intersections According to
State Farm Insurance Company, only one intersection in Florida was considered
as one of the top ten most dangerous intersections in 1999-2000, based on

Flamingo Road and Pines Boulevard in Pembroke Pines, FL topped the nation's

Transportation Plan Update:
Commuter
Choices Week: It's
All About Options The UNTI is teaming up with Bay Area
Commuter Services to bring Commuter Choices Week to Hillsborough County
the week of September 10-15. With an emphasis on carpooling, vanpooling,
bicycling, walking, taking transit, and alternative work hour programs, Commuter
Choices Week will remind employers and employees of the many alternatives
to single-occupancy travel. Promotions
will highlight the ways individuals can help reduce traffic congestion and
improve air quality throughout Tampa Bay. To get involved in Commuter Choices
Week, pick up pledge cards at any Hillsborough or Pinellas County Eckerd
Drug Store, or from participating employers during the month of August. Everyone who returns a card by September
14th with a pledge to change their commute mode for at least one day will be
eligible to win one of many exciting prizes. Festival events to celebrate Commuter
Choices Week will be held at various locations throughout Hillsborough and
Pinellas Counties. For more information
on Commuter Choices Week events and activities, or if you are an
employer and would like to receive promotional material and a pledge card drop
box, please contact the UNTI at 974-9799 or visit BACS website at www.TampaBayRideshare.org. Roadway Construction Updates Interstate
275, from Busch Boulevard to U.S. 41, will have periodic nighttime lane
closures. Also watch for construction at Busch Boulevard and Fowler Avenue near
the interstate. Work will continue until two new lanes are complete in fall
2002. There are new
ramp alignments at the Busch Boulevard and I-275 interchange for the northbound
entrance ramp to I-275 and the southbound exit ramp to Busch Blvd. Also, westbound Busch Boulevard has been
reduced to two lanes under the interstate. During this phase of construction,
the right lane of westbound Busch is an "exit only" lane to
northbound I-275. Motorists traveling
west towards North Florida Avenue must merge from the right lane to the center
lane east of the I-275 overpass.
Traffic is expected to be in this configuration until June 2002. UNTI COMMUNITY NEWS Survey
